No One Is Abolishing the 2nd Amendment

Gun rights debates have become a heated point of discussion, a continuously ever-unresolved debate. Trump is once again using this controversy to his advantage and adding fuel to this ever burning fire. Trump has been using fear tactics over the last few months to insinuate that if elected, Hillary Clinton will abolish the 2nd Amendment and take the guns away from every freedom loving American that she can. Because of this, American’s have become increasingly more worried that their 2nd Amendment rights will become a thing of the past.

Back in August, Donald Trump made the comment that “Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the Second Amendment.”, according to the Washington Post.
No, no Donald. She does not. How Hillary feels is how many American’s feel. Anyone that backs gun reform is looking to keep guns out of the hands of people that have the potential to cause harm to others. The expectation here is that stricter regulations in issuing gun permits makes this possible, such as universal background checks and possibly much stricter regulations on obtaining semi-automatic weapons, such as the AR-15. Not a bad idea if you ask me. Personally, if you have a declared mental illness, you probably shouldn’t be carrying a gun around. Criminal background? Nope, guns aren’t for you either. ‘Normal’, (I use this word generously) everyday, criminal record-free Joe Schmo trying to protect his family or go hunting on occasion? I think it’s safe to say that no one is targeting you and trying to take your gun. You’re good.

This is why Donald Trump’s recent comment regarding Hillary’s bodyguards is so problematic, and quite honestly absurd. Trump is quoted by CNN as saying: "I think her bodyguards should drop all weapons. Disarm immediately," and "Take their guns away, let's see what happens to her."

First of all, I’m not even referring to the idea that Trump’s comment could be seen as potentially threatening to Hillary or violence provoking.  Instead I’m referring to the sheer ludicrousness of the very thought. It’s irrational to think that in any of the gun rights debates, anyone would ever consider any member of a police force, military, national security team, or protection of a presidential candidate to be disarmed. Of course not. A nation without guns at all? Is this what Trump is saying Hillary is gunning for? (Pun intended) I don’t think so, and neither should you. I’m sure Hillary feels very cozy knowing her armed bodyguards have her back at all times.

Let me point out, incase it wasn’t already clear in my rant. No one is trying to abolish the 2nd Amendment and take everyone’s guns away. Not even Hillary Clinton is trying to do this, no matter what Donald Trump says. Total control over American’s is not the idea here; gun reform is – for the protection of you and I. Stricter regulations? Yes. Repeal the right to bear arms? No.

The gun ‘reform’ controversy is far from over, but let’s stop thinking of it as ‘control’. Donald Trump’s mouth on the other hand, that could use a little control.

  1. I really like what you said here, just like you I believe that trumps mouth does need some control too. He loves to take peoples words and turn them into something that makes him sound like the best candidate, but trying to make Americans believe that Hillary is trying to abolish the second amendment is going too far. As a presidential candidate Hillary should be all for all of the amendments, i mean they have been around for a very long time and are very important for our society. Trump trying to say that she wants to abolish this amendment just makes him sound stupid, at least that's my opinion. We do need to have stricter laws, but abolishing an amendment is going way to far and Trump needs to filter more of what he says.

  2. The second amendment has been all over the news and social media and it is hard to come across articles that don't repeat the same thing over and over again. You've done a good job of not sounding like the main stream media even though the subject is a very hot topic. One criticism that I would give would be to watch your set up, part of your article is in black and other parts are in white and I had to really strain myself to read it. I'm glad I did because I enjoyed this article but I would've enjoyed more if I could read it easier.

  3. It's been over a year, and people are still trying to analyze Candidate Trump's utterances the way they do any other politician. I think this meets the definition of insanity on the media's part.

More and more people are telling pollsters that they just don't care about Trump's truthiness. So what does this say about Trump's persuasiveness, and the future of the American political process?
