Black Lives Matter

America is becoming more divided than ever because of the racial divide that is occurring in our nation. I’m not going to sugar code the fact the Black lives matter makes some people of all races feel uncomfortable. I’m not going to lie to you and say that African Americans are not angry at the current regulations and laws of our country. What I want to tell you is that BLM doesn’t mean that all lives don’t matter but currently in America African American lives don’t mean as much. The movement is just saying hey we matter to, and "I’m just as important as anyone else”.
Currently my view on the BLM movement is that is great. Once again America has to address the lingering problems surrounding Racism and equality. Talking about race and the state of this country is something most people have a problem doing. Admitting that there is a problem in America in terms of how African Americans are treated is another thing people have trouble grasping and some to this day believe racism doesn’t exist. To be completely truthful racism is probably at an all time low in our time. Currently it’s not always the people who are racist but the system that was built in a time that was not fair for black people.

BLM is doing a good job of addressing the current standards in our country and with the help of social media some of the issues may be resolved sooner than later. I think that the difference in our lifetime is that with the power of the Internet BLM has spread like fire and the reach will be even greater than anything the civil rights had. Although I feel BLM will not accomplish as much as the Civil rights movement did during its peak in the 1960s, they are essentially fighting for the same thing.

  1. I'm a little confused on what you are trying to say here, "Currently my view on the BLM movement is that is great." so you are saying that you agree with everything they are doing to help prevent and stop the racial problems? But then your final statement contradicts that, 'Although I feel BLM will not accomplish as much as the Civil rights movement did during its peak in the 1960s, they are essentially fighting for the same thing." yes you are agreeing that they're helping but essentially your saying that it wont do much? I think if youre trying to persuade us as your readers to agree the BLM is doing great things then you might want to consider ending on a stronger note. Other then that i agree with you the BLM has spread like fire and is doing great things. Racism has been around for way longer then any of us have been here and it will take way longer then just us to end it, but the BLM is a great way to help. Things aren't going to get better over night but as long as we have people continuously trying to help, we can hope that things will get better, just like they did after the 1960s.

Not really. Once again, America is discussing racism and equality. Whether anything changes is yet undecided.

"racism is probably at an all time low in our time."
How do you define "racism"? The stereotype that an individual has in their mind (which I can say from personal experience has gone down since 1970), or structural societal institutions like the War on People Who Use Drugs, or private for-profit prisons, or mandatory sentencing and Three-Strikes laws?

"I think the reach [of BLM] will be even greater than anything the civil rights had"
"I feel BLM will not accomplish as much as the Civil rights movement"
I don't understand your historical comparison between BLM and MLK.

  3. Honestly no matter what the government or the people do, there will always be a problem with race and equality. Everyone will not be happy because they look at problems as like oh well they do this for whites why cant we not have that, then it gets changed and the whites complain about the blacks and the hispanics complain about the columbians. there will alwyas be the problem of race and equality. yes black lives matter but we are all the same, the only thing that is different is our skin color or culture. we all need to just come together and realize who we should be complaining with than fighting with ourselves.

    1. You're hinting at the distinction between "Proposition Nation Politics" and "Identity Politics". Identity meaning, an individual votes according to their race or tribe, and Proposition meaning, voting according to their belief in the proposition that America is a melting pot.
