For the past few weeks everyone has been discussing
the 2005
Recording of Donald Trump speaking crudely about women while filming an Access
Hollywood interview with Billy Bush. As many of you know in this video
Trump said something that shocked us all. He talked about women and how “When you’re
a star you can do anything”, he could just go up and kiss them; you could “Grab
them by the pussy, You can do anything.” I don’t know about all of you but I
was horrified that a presidential candidate could say such horrible things.
Since then there have been at least 6
clams of Trump sexually assaulting women since the early 80’s and Trump has
denied them all. In one instance he was said to have walked in a dressing room of
the 1997 Miss Teen USA pageant were girls as young as 15 were getting dressed;
his excuse being” I’m allowed to go in because I’m the owner of the pageant and
therefore I’m inspecting it.” I for one don’t think this is a valid excuse at
all. Just because he owns a pageant does not give him the right to walk in on
young girls getting dressed, they have a dressing room to give them privacy and
him entering that room is violating their right to privacy.
Trump has denied all of these claims and he says that
he has evidence against them, but where is it? If a presidential candidate is
being accused of sexual assault and claims to have evidence against it I would
think that it would be his first priority to get that out and not just say that
it will be released soon.
He along with others think that people are just accusing
him of sexual assault because of the 2005 interview release but these women are
just coming out now because maybe someone will finally believe them. Telling
your story of assault takes an incredible amount of bravery and when it is
against someone famous or important political figures then it’s not taken
lightly. These women are finally coming out with their stories because they
feel safe in numbers. Instead of being called a liar or just looking for attention
(which happens all the time and is a huge reason why women don’t say anything)
they probably feel comfort in knowing that they are not alone.
Do we really want a man who is ok with sexual assault
and even one who has partaken is sexual assault accounts to be our next president?
I know I don’t. What kind of message does that send to the women of our
country, or the men who have been sexually assaulted? I think that sends a very
negative picture and anyone who thinks its ok to even make jokes about assault
should in no way ever be allowed to run this country. A present should be a
role model, not someone that people fear.
"there have been at least 6 clams of Trump sexually assaulting"
ReplyDeleteNever mind the children. Won't anyone think of the molluscs?!?
Regardless of his current identity, a presidential candidate, i think it is extremely inappropriate for a man saying and describing things like this.
ReplyDeleteI think there's no need for Clinton to emphasize her advantages, Trump is going to help her highlight her female trait by showing the worse aspect of himself.
Just wondering if there's any woman not being pissed after hearing this?
It's certainly inappropriate for a man to say and describe things like this in 2016. Even if you think you're speaking in private. We now live in a world where someone overhearing you make a "dongle joke" will get you fired.
ReplyDeleteWas it in 2005? Well, that's an interesting question. We now live in a world where historical figures are judged not in the context of their times but by contemporary views about slave ownership or racial bigotry.
"Just wondering if there's any woman not being pissed after hearing this?"
If a woman is not pissed, do you really expect them to step forward and say so in our current social climate?
There are certainly women stepping forward and saying they're not pissed off about this. They are Trump supporters. Well actually, they said they had been pissed off but that quickly passed once he "said he was sorry". Please. Anything for them to protect their own ignorance.
DeleteYou are very quick to label female Trump supporters as "ignorant".
DeleteThank you for this concrete example of the sort of dismissive negative feedback that discourages a large number of people from speaking out. It ties in with the historically unprecedented number of people who are telling pollsters they are voting for third-party candidates.
I hate to keep disagreeing with you, but I did not in fact label female Trump supporters as ignorant. I labeled the ones that will dismiss the words of a bigot because they feel the need to justify their vote, which is not all of them. Some are disgusted and rightfully so, and have been wrestling with voting for him. I get their struggle because some are continuing with their support simply because they don't like Hillary. At least that's an argument that has basis. But the ones that say they are ok with his comments? No. Not buying it.
DeleteAnd to be clear, "dismissive negative feedback that discourages a large number of people from speaking out" is much more relevant when someone is speaking out AGAINST someone, not in support of them. Like the women who are being called liars after they claimed he sexually assaulted them. Clearly people hating on Trump is not preventing their support for them or it wouldn't be such a tight race.
