Apps to Help You Get a Ride to Vote

Election Day is tomorrow and Uber, Lyft, Zipcar, and Maven are all offering special promotions to ensure everyone is able to get to polls to vote in the election.

Uber and Google have teamed up for this special promotion. There will be an in-app feature, which allows you to locate your polling station as well as requesting a ride there. And for first-time users of Uber, the code VOTETODAY will get them $20 off.

Lyft is offering 45% off, in honor of electing the 45th president, between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Election Day (they have capped that offer so you can get a maximum of $10 off). Alternately, first-time Lyft riders can use the code NOVEMBER8TH to get $5 off their first 10 rides. Those offers, however, cannot be combined.

Zipcar is doing what they refer to as #DRIVEtheVOTEcampaign, which is the biggest promotion that they’ve done in about 4 years. They will have 7,000 vehicles nationwide which will be free of charge between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Election Day; polls close at 8 p.m., so this ensures users will be able to get there and back. In order to take advantage of this discount, you must be a Zipcar member. Reservations are open now through Tuesday.

Maven is simply doing $5 off all day. I haven’t found any promo codes, so it can be assumed that it will be automatically applied when requesting a ride.

I especially see the value of these promotions on college campuses. Lots of resident students don’t have the means of transportation to get to polling stations without using one of these services or having a parent pick them up and drive them back. And offering a discount will add some incentive to make sure you get out and vote tomorrow!

Props to Uber, Lyft, Zipcar, and Maven for doing these promotions!
