Voting is a
very simple thing you vote once and it’s free. Imagine you have to pay to vote
and how that would impact the election. Then think about what it would be like
if you could vote two times. This would change a lot of things in the political
world. Politics already is already crazy; think about the state of America now
that you have 2 votes. There are a lot of things that could heavily impact
politics voting is one of the most significant factors.
For
starters making people pay to vote would discourage a lot of people from voting
and would frankly make it impossible for poor people to vote. Currently if you
don’t have a valid address you can’t really vote which is already an obstacle
for the homeless to overcome if they want to perform their so-called “civic
duty”. Charging a price for voting would initially eliminate communities whose
income is shaky and frankly less people would be motivated to vote. The way
that this would impact the campaign is that certain areas wouldn’t have rallies
and many of the candidates would not visit some states. Strategies would
completely change knowing that a certain demographic would not vote.
If you
could vote more than once I couldn’t imagine what the electoral votes would
look like. Not to say that you could vote more than two times for the same
candidate but you could vote for 2 people. All of a sudden swing states have
such a big impact on the electoral map. They would probably have to cover more
than just the two candidates because of the possibilities of the others getting
more votes. I believe we could see a president that wasn’t apart of the
democrats and the republicans.
I could not agree more. Having the public pay to vote would change everything. the votes would be insignificant because everyone can vote as many times as they please as long as they pay for the vote. The poor and the homeless could be made out so they do not have to pay so their "civic duty" stays in tack with everyone else because that would only be fair that they can vote as well.
ReplyDeleteMy view is if votes were for sale, it would likely cause a black market of vote purchasing that would result in those in financial need selling those votes and causing election upsets according to the highest bidder.
ReplyDeleteImagine wealthy elites creating vote liquidating events in which large numbers of people are persuaded to vote a certain way and then sell those votes to vested interests and therefore ensure the same people are elected to office over and over again.
Anyway, that is an interesting idea. In fact, a relative of mine wrote a book about monetized voting in the United States. It was a sort of dystopia that was very cynical and dark.
