Its official, Trump won.
What this also means is that the Republicans remains in control in the House and in the Senate. That hasn’t happened since 2005! The real question is does this mean Trump has the green light for anything he said he would do?
For starters, what had surprised me last night was the fact that his acceptance speech was so clean and “politically correct”. I believe that was the first time I had ever heard and or seen Trump do that in the public eye. Now with that being said, what does that mean for his presidency, was his campaign of racism, sexism, xenophobia and what have you a hoax to get in the White House and actually do good or was last night him just taking a break from being an ass.
Who knows. That’s the scary part though. We don’t really know what to expect from Trump despite his entire campaign being centered around him being loud and flat out blunt. We just don’t know.
For the sake of my well-being and mental health, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, as a true democratic AMERICAN. We Americans pride ourselves (on paper that is) on accepting everyone and their ideas because we are a nation built for the people. Yes, I may not agree but for the sake of America and for the sake of progression I will partially unwillingly (because I didn’t vote for him) and partially willing see where the next four years leads us as a nation.
That may be for the good or the bad, but the way I see it as if we hit rock bottom we can only go up from there. Kind of like the light at the end of a tunnel, but as all stories go, good or bad we have to pick a comfy seat and ride it out.
I agree, Trump's acceptance speech was very out of character. It actually gave me a glimmer of hope - maybe his presidency won't be as bad as so many are picturing. However, the scariest thing is that we can't really trust any political pundits anymore. Most of them have been very wrong in their predications during the election cycle. It's scary to think how much of an upset to the status quo Trump is. No one can really say what's going to happen next.
ReplyDeleteI actually did appreciate his speech because there has been so much hate being spit back about this election for example "Trump is not my president" or people burning the flag, how is that any better than the bigitory campaign he ran? They also wish for him to fail which is dumb for lack of a better work. Why would you (non Trump supporters) want him to fail? We will live with the fail, just because he wasn't your first choice you should want him to succeed because then our nation will succeed and thats the over arching goal that us Americans need to remember.
ReplyDeleteHonestly Trump has me confused. I understand he won and all but to have no political background and then have a speech that was politically correct was very surprising for me. I just did not think Trump would of had that in him. But with this speech I do agree that there is a little bit of hope after all with him as our president.
ReplyDeleteHi.
ReplyDeleteI liked your post. I think your title is clever. It's almost a kind of palindrome.
You seem to have the attitude that you will sort of hold your nose and hope that Trump does not behave in a way that would be a surprise to no one. It also appears that you are saying in a way that you, for the sake of the well-being of the country, will accept him as the president and hold judgement until he actually governs. That's quite admirable given that you did not vote for him.
Finally, you are right in a way that we do not know yet how Trump will govern. My feeling is that campaigns and all the bluster and posturing of running against an opponents infrequently survive the campaign. In addition, Trump has been a New York democrat his entire life until recently, so I am thinking we will likely see this side of him emerge relatively soon.
In any case, nice post.
"I believe that was the first time I had ever heard and or seen Trump do that in the public eye."
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah. He's no longer Primary Candidate Trump, running against the Clown Car Republicans and pandering to the most extreme elements of the Republican Party. He's no longer Presidential Candidate Trump, motivating his base and attempting to sway the undecided by smearing Clinton.
He's now President-elect Trump. Of course he's going to sound Presidential.
"We don’t really know what to expect from Trump "
You can expect that he will use his mad Master Persuader skillz to govern the nation.
I really enjoy the title of this piece but I do not believe it works with what you are trying to discuss. At first, I thought you were going to talk about how controversial the comparison 9/11 and 11/9 is after the conclusion of the election. But instead you touch base on the aftermath of the election all together. You should have used a different title relating to Trumps victory rather then a tragic American event.
ReplyDeleteI liked the title and feel that it adequately sets the stage for a conversation on the emotional impact of the ascension of the God-Emperor.
DeleteThen again, I watched the fall of the second tower live on TV, and did not know for several hours whether my kids living in Arlington, VA were safe after the Pentagon attack. But it's pretty clear that many people felt the same sort of emotional devastation last week that I felt in 2001.
Clever title. Kind of sad to have to compare the two, election day is usually a day of great pride for the country, whereas 9/11 was a national disaster and tragedy. I feel like now since he is President, most of Clinton supporters are going to just have to suck it up after they are done protesting. And this includes me. I could protest for years but it doesn't change the fact he is running the country I will be in for probably the rest of my life, or at least a big part of it. And you're right about his switch to political correctness, like an actual flip of a light switch. Lets see how this pans out.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think titles like this only further the end-of-the-world sentiments that so many people are feeling right now. I don't think anything in your article suggests that you view his election to be as bad as the worst attack on America in history
