Megyn Kelly, a reporter for
Fox News, has recently spoken about Donald Trump threatening her and about her
old boss sexually harassing her. Kelly appeared on Dr. Phil on November 13th
to discuss both her experiences.
Kelly claims that she also
became (now Presidential Elect) Donald Trump’s target for hatred and
threatening. After he announced that he was running for president, Trump’s
first wife accused him of raping her during their marriage but later recanted
her statement. The recant did not stop the story from spreading like wildfire.
Kelly invited a reporter onto her show to discuss the details of the story. Trump,
of course, was negatively affected by this story and very angry, and allegedly
called Kelly on the phone and threated her, as well as told her how upset he
was that she brought someone on her show to discuss the case that made him look
so bad. He was especially displeased at the fact that this was done only four
days before the presidential debate.
Kelly also went into how her
ex-boss at Fox News, Roger Ailes, subjected her to months of sexual harassment
during their private meetings. Ailes denied her accusations but was actually let
go from Fox News in July.
Kelly has also released her own
memoir, Settle for More. In the book
there is a lot of space dedicated to these two experiences she had.
What is so interesting about
this story is that Kelly decided to release this memoir after the election, and
not before it. It would have been ideal for her to release it at least a month
before the election. It contains this story about Trump as well as more
detrimental information. Many people are disregarding her and her stories, now
that the election and Trump has won, this information has simply become
irrelevant. If she had released it with time to spare, it could have changed
the opinion of hundreds or even thousands of people, especially women’s opinion
on him and could have even swayed their vote to another candidate.
While I agree that the potential release of her memoir before the election may have swayed a few opinions, I'm wary about the high numbers you've suggested. Women have come forward about Trump sexually harassing and/or assaulting them before, and if I'm not mistaken he had a civil suit filed against him in June this year for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old - the charges of which were only dropped this month.
ReplyDeleteThe women who have come forward about Trump allegedly assaulting and threatening them have been harassed further by the public, and are torn apart for their timing because their claims were assumed to merely be an attack on Trump to skew the election (clearly that worked SO well). Do you really think that if Kelly had come forward sooner, more than a few hundred minds would have changed? What would have made her story more powerful than any of the others?
I think Kelly came forward post election to actually seem MORE credible. Accusers pre-election are looked at as fabricating stories for the purpose of influencing the election. Does she seem more credible by coming our after? I think so, for sure. It doesn't change anything at this very point, except adding to the ever-growing list of things that make Trump look bad which could help to influence the public's opinion about Trump for the next election.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Water Lily. She actually seems more credible after the fact, if she has evidence to back her story. You have to wonder if she came out after the fact to stay in the spotlight or avoid additional harassment - or if she just considered it a good journalistic move for getting the information out. After reading the description for her book on the Barnes & Nobles site I'm honestly curious to read the whole thing.
DeleteIsn't Megyn Kelly that reporter who said Jesus and Santa were both historically proven to be white? People probably weren't planning on believing her about this whether she came forward before or after the election.
