I believe in these past few weeks during this blog that I
have made it clear that I am a liberal. With that being said I never really pay
much attention to the Republican side unless the Tea Party says something ridiculous
and I can’t not ignore it. I’ve never really under stood the conservative
ideals and virtues that they carry because my family is very liberal. For
goodness sake my parents are immigrants, it doesn’t get any further than the
Republican party than that.
I’m an avid Facebook user, I watch a lot videos everyday.
Either to do with food tutorials or DIY but mostly political videos due to the
nature of the 2016 Presidential Election. Because my news feed is made up of
videos posted by my friends, all I ever saw was liberal videos.
Massachusetts Is known as a die hard Blue State and I don’t get much
interaction with the other parties, unless I look for it myself.
I happened to come across a video that was shared that made
me really the Republican party. It was done by The Conservative Tribune Wire
which I hadn’t come across before.
The video is about about a daughter and her father are
oppositions to each other in terms of politics and its mainly how the father
gets the daughter to understand the Republican view on wealthy distribution.
I found this so interesting because especially now in the
wake of the 2016 Presidential Election. I have seen things from people burning
the flag because of whom the elect is and I have seen racial slurs being spit
out more than they should be.
I don’t believe people understand that everyone has their
views and we as a nation can not push forward as whole and become “great again”
if we don’t accept the fact that others have different virtues and get over
them.
I feel that it is important to not only dwell in your
political realm. The Internet is filled with information and news papers and
other forms too where you can at least read or skim.
I’ve benefited so much from doing this in the past few
months because I can say things with a level of certainty and a better level of
neutralism when needed that I just couldn’t get before.
I think you've made a good point. People need to get out from the political comfort zone because this is the only way to see the bigger picture. I think politicians need to learn this specifically. Knowing what the opponents are for is another way to know the people's opinions.
ReplyDeleteI used to wonder why we don't have a party covering all sides we like. Then I realize it is a stupid question. It is obvious that different socio-economic background and various experiences define our ideologies.
"Knowing what the opponents are for is another way to know the people's opinions."
DeleteI don't understand this sentence.
I think that's very true about varied experience and background - one group of people may just not have the same needs as another. I have a new appreciation for local government.
ReplyDeleteInvisible Man, it is interesting that you bring up news on facebook given the current back and forth about whether there is 'too much false news' on the site. I think in addition to reaching beyond my comfort zone, taking a closer look at the sources for articles that pop up on my feed - liberal and conservative - will be a new goal to work towards in educating myself. If conservatives have a legitimate point, they have a legitimate point.
There are certain differences in virtue and opinion which it would benefit Americans to overlook, but it's also important to recognize that some of the opinions held are in regards to who is more deserving of rights than others. Being able to sit down and explain our stances on things is helpful in a lot of situations, yet it's a little harder to "get over" differences when the differences are a matter of respecting each other's existence, isn't it?
ReplyDelete"it's also important to recognize that some of the opinions held are in regards to who is more deserving of rights than others."
DeleteWhat?!?
One of the biggest reasons why Trump is now the President-elect is because of a backlash against this proposition.
In my view (as well as many others), if it is a 'right', then it is equally applicable to everyone. When you say one person or one class of people is more 'deserving' of a right, we are in complete and total disagreement as to definitions.
I am, however, open to a conversation about how some classes are more deserving of particular outcomes, and whether some sort of Affirmative Action is ethical.

"I’ve never really under stood the conservative ideals and virtues that they carry because my family is very liberal."
ReplyDeleteYou'll need to overcome this shortcoming in your education, if you wish to be truly persuasive.
"I happened to come across a video that was shared that made me really the Republican party."
Made you really *what*?
"The video is about about a daughter and her father "
Um, no. The link you give is for the landing page of the web site. It is currently a 40 second clip saying very little about Trump's foreign policy speech, and will likely be something different by the time you check it.
In the future, you'll need to find the "deep link" or "permalink".

Which is it? Were you in a liberal echo chamber bubble, or were you viewing and reading things outside your political realm?
What non-liberal blogs do you recommend? I certainly don't think much of @theconservativetribunewire and Liftable Media Inc.
