Goodbye Obama
After eight years, we are saying goodbye to our 44th president of the United States. When Barack Obama was elected in to office, he was titled the first African American President. However after two long terms, he will not be known for his race but rather his contributions as the leader of the free nation. Although some may shit on his presidency completely, I believe Obama will be missed. I believe he tried the best he could do.
When Obama stepped in to office after the 8 year term of George W. Bush, he walked in to a shithole of a nation. Bush was a likeable president so most people didn’t realize the turmoil he put on our nation that Obama had to cleanup. At the end of his presidency in 2008, “Congress passed a series of controversial Bush administration-sponsored plans to bail out the financial industry with hundreds of billions in federal funds” [1] that put America in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. When Obama became president in 2008, Bush’s financial upsets that were left behind had Obama off to a rough start.

Most people did not agree with Obama becoming president and as he is reaching the end of his last term, the belief is he dug the country in to more debt. However according to statistics, Obama was actually above average. While looking at the economic growth, Obama “has managed to turn the terrible economic hand he was dealt into a mixed economic record” and “United States has certainly fared far better than the other developed nations.” [2]Even though the United States are still in the economic gutter, Barack Obama managed to improve our economic downfall, even if it was slight.

All in all Barack Obama was a fair president and did the best he could in the aftermath of the Bush administration. Obama deserves to be missed and remembered for then being the first African American president.

  1. I don't just think he was fair, I think he was amazing. The shit this man has to deal with in the last 8 years might make him a saint as well. I personally will miss him so much. Give it time, and I think others that, like you say, "have shit on his presidency" will have a change of tune at some point. If we could just have one more term!! How about Michelle Obama 2020!

  2. The Clinton Administration in the 1990's deregulated the financial industry. It took about six years for Wall Street and the "too big to fail" banks to feel out what they could get away with, and two years to dig a really big hole. President-elect Obama supported the lame duck bills that rescued the banks, because the alternative was worse.

Unfortuanately, most banks banks refused to use the TARP money in the way intended, which lengthened the depression.

  3. I think President Obama is an extremely decent person, and I can tell you that I will certainly miss him. He did a lot for LGBT people and handled the international community and terrorism well.

In terms of the '08 depression, the president did in fact support the bailout bills and should have conditioned that money on helping the citizens of this country out of that unbelievable mess. Of course, he could not do that because the financial elites who committed those crimes are simply too deeply embedded in our political system.

  4. I like Barack Obama simply because he does view Taiwan as an independent country (from my own interpretation). Obama named Taiwan as the model of democracy when he visited Lao. I think this is a comfort to Taiwanese (maybe) considering China is getting more intimate with America. (Poor Taiwan~)
But who knows? Trump will be your president and he was a businessman.
